  • KING COAT vs. Columbia Coatings gun

    Hey guys,

    Look at this page: http://store.columbiacoatings.com/cgi-b ... splay=home

What do you think of the youtube video? It has me convinced ... cup guns all have the problem of inconsistent delivery huh? I switched to the king coat from the EW pro hoping it could give consistent delivery ... it looks like the Columbia Coatings is what I want?

What are the differences in the controllers?

Is there any way to mod the King Coat to a hopper system like the Columbia gun?

Are there any differences in the gun? The power supplies look very different

is there was reason we could not run a hose from the same style hoper they are using to the hole that the cup screws into on the King gun?

after looking at it again they just have the jug of powder inline with there air intake? So could this not also be done with the King gun by changing the air intake line to a larger size and blocking the hole that the cup goes in?

yes but we are recommending a fluidizing hopper with an pump to go with the King Coat Gun

Re: KING COAT vs. Columbia Coatings gun

Powder should be electrostatically charged as is travels through the cascade and attracted to the part (not forced). The cascase in the King Coat Gun is electrostatically charging the powder to attract to the part no matter what distance you are from the part. The recommended distance for applying powder is 6-8" without creating a large cloud to minimize cost and waste, multipule passes should not be necessary. Some gun manufacturer's have the notion that if you spray enough powder at the part it is bound to stick. Think about the Molecular structure of a metallic powder....the metallic is in the shape of a corn flake with rough edges which are encapsulated in polyester, ect. If you are too close to the part, your metallic powder will not lay down the smoothe finish your customer expects.

I hate to say it but we have sold 3 of these guns to powder manufacturers for them to spray their own test panels..

To be honest Matt is working on this project but I believe the pumps (key component) have been ordered. You can also make your own using the fluidizing membrane and a little American WE CAN DO IT! If you send me your email I will forward a hopper drawing to you ...

Anyone notice how close they get to the substrate? That can't be right can it?
