  • Convection ovens

I'm looking for a decent sized oven for my small shop. Home ovens are a bit too small for what I need.

I found this type of commercial convection oven, and wanted to know if any of you are using anything like this, and how well it works.

This oven flows air past elements and into the opening, as apposed to having an element in the bottom like a home oven - is this a problem?

    Thanks.

I have one exactly like that and it works very nicely. Mine is 3-phase though, so make sure you have the power it requires. The only mod I did was make a baffle in front of the fan to keep the powder from blowing around. You also have to keep it very clean or it kicks up dirt if there is anything laying in the bottom of the oven. Here is the pic of the mod I did.

Thanks Dan. Your mod sounds like a good idea.

This one is single-phase 40A or so. I can do it with what I have I'm pretty sure.

The guy wants $1500 - is that reasonable for one like this (Blodgett Mark V)?

      Thanks.

Thanks. I'm short on space, and can't go too much larger right now.

Almost exactly what I payed for mine, and I've seen them sell for much higher (over $2000). Mine is 40amp /3 phase though. I would have the seller double-check the nameplate on it. I'd hate to see you buy it and not be able to use it if you only have single-phase power.

              Thanks,

They make it both single and 3-phase. I'm guessing the single won't put out the power your's does.

He said he was running it off a 50A breaker. The web site says 44A single-phase, which is about the max I can handle right now.

Does the fan motor need separate 110 power?

Nope, single point connection. You will need a 50-amp breaker though, and make sure the wire will handle it. #8 copper wire minimum. I'm sure it'll work fine. Mine heats to 400 in about 15 minutes or less.

                Best of luck.

I sure do hate to see $1500 go for that when Ted can make almost anything and any size and any amp and then I can turn it into a duke and teds easy bake Kenmore oven and add all the bells and whistles If you change your mind on the one you posted get with ted and then get with me and you will have a oven you can have total control of and I am guess at a way better price. My info is free and Ted can add to his and modify while building easy.

Hush Ted you can do it. Its the cats meow now with the mods I have made

Look up industrial auction sites in your area. http://www.k-bid.com/ They liquidate resteraunts or businesses and you'll find a TON of industrial size oven for under 1000 bucks all day long. I hate to see you waste money.

I'm keeping my eye on a local auction site here, they let huge ovens go all day long for 200-500 bucks! Just waiting to pounce when one fits all my needs.

Wiseguy, that is a brillant idea with the way you have your rack setup in that pic. Mount an existing rack to the side walls. I made some ghetto thing that works, but that is by far the best idea ive seen on this site in a while. Time to refabricate.

I'd like to take credit for the rack setup, but thats the way that one comes. Those sides are the shelves for the racks and the nice part is they all come out so you can easily wipe down the oven walls. I just took out all the shelves so there was room to hang stuff instead of laying them down.
