  • KING COAT GUNS

HI ALL, I AM CONSIDERING PURCHASING A KING COAT GUN. I HAVE DONE A LOT OF READING ON THE GUNS IN THE FORUM AND I HAVE A SIMPLE QUESTION. THOSE THAT HAVE BAUGHT THE GUNS, WITH THE MODS THAT HAVE BEEN SUGGESTED, HOW HAPPY ARE YOU WITH THE GUNS NOW, AFTER THE MODS. $800 OR $900 IS A GOOD CHUNK OF CHANGE FOR ME AND I WOULD LIKE TO FEEL SECURE THAT THE GUN, EVEN IF NEEDING MODS, WILL BE A WORTH WHILE INVESTMENT. YOUR INPUT IS APPRECIATED !!!!
    THANKS

    Re: KING COAT GUNS

I got the King gun about 2 weeks ago. At this point (no mods) I think it's worth it. But at first, I was skeptical. I wasn't getting good flow of powder (to much) and not getting the cloud that I was used to with my hobby guns. I did a set of wheels with Wet Black and it is impressive. You have to figure out the flow control and do some practice panels. The powder attraction (with proper grounds) is awesome. I was doing the wheels and a glider (swing) and the powder went clear around the pipe frame of the Glider and over the lip of the wheel and around the back. As for the mods, I've been looking and have come up with a couple of my own (maybe). I still get some powder in the barrel, but not like I was. Just have to get used to it. But I do think mods are in order for it as a cup gun. But I think it's a good buy and the support is the best!!

Hi, I'm new to this forum but glad to have found it. I've been to the others but this one seems to have more action. I am getting started in PCing and am trying to absorb as much of the knowledge as I can. Thanks.
Has anyone used the Hyper Smooth gun from Columbia? I was looking at one of those because it's hopper type feed instead of the bottle. It is also in the $899 range.

Please remember one thing - a true hopper uses a fluidizing membrane !

We have a customer who is building small hoppers with a fluidized membrane as we speak. We have retro-fits coming in for the guns very shortlty. The retro-fit will allow you to use this gun either as a cup gun or as a gun that pulls from a hopper. We will also have pumps available, you may choose to use the hopper without a pump or have the option to use a true pump. The pumps will be the most expensive part, so we are trying to give our customers the option as to what they would like to spend. We should have these available very shortly and will keep you updated. Thanks again for all of your guys support and please don't hesitate to ask any questions regarding this.

Thanks for an update on the hopper situation. Could you further explain the hopper with and without a pump? I guess I really don't understand what a pump does if you can run a hopper without one. I've also noticed several comments on the King Coat having extra air control knobs on the system. Will these extra knobs be used on the hopper?

The pump will help regualte an even flow of powder, by using the pump you will help greatly eliminate any type of spitting/sputtering. The pump will also allow you to hook up another air line to control the air pressure to the pump and will allow you to use the center knob on the controller as well for adjusting.

                  Re: KING COAT GUNS

Coating powder is best conveyed to the sprayguns if it is fluidized first.
Compressed air from the feed air connection is pushed through the injector nozzle (also known as the Venturi nozzle) into the collector nozzle. The small diameter of the nozzle ensures a high air velocity.

On its way through the injector the feed air passes across the powder suction tube where it sucks in powder due to the vacuum. The air and the powder now continue to flow at a high velocity through the collector nozzle into the powder hose and finally to the spray gun.

Hey JW, are you using your gun straight from the box or did you do any mods?

When do you think you will have the retro kits for the King Coat guns ready?

Heres a photo of the bicycle I am working on. The EW Bright red was shot with the King Coat gun (no mods) and the PBTP Wet Black was with my Caswell gun. The black fades over the red. I really like the way the King Coat gun works. The only thing I did with the gun setup was put a gauge on the regulator.

so what is the latest "best operating procedure" for the king coat?

what kv settings, what air settings, etc.

and are the mods people do: grainger metering valve, inverted J copper tube, and possibly the fluidizing hopper ...

                              did i miss anything there?
