  • Coats, how many and how to put them on

Coating a Harley fender for my pop. He let is sit stripped for a while and the nasty rust gremlins came in to visit. Well I blasted again and shot with the PBTP KL Primer. Of course after a little sanding the fender looked very good if I have to say so myself, KL Primer is a damn miracle worker Im tellin you. I then shot the fender with wet black, Came out pretty good. Now I cant get the clear to stick, and I want it to be a deep shine if you know what I mean. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to get the clear to stick without hot flocking? I just cant seem to get a good coat when I try to hot flock a part, if I have to I will though and I guess I can just spend some time with 2000 grit and then a buffing pad.

    Thanks for any info.

100kv gun, I shot first coat of KL with about 85 kv. Next coat was PBTP wet black, shot at about 40 kv. Tried shooting a Caswell clear, (of course I dont have it in front of me right now so I dont know which one) with no kv's and again with about 20 kv and it would not stick. Its a friends gun with no markings on it, I believe it is one of the Chinese guns you see on ebay from time to time.

Of course King, I should have known you needed all the facts, and I didnt bring that to the table up front, sorry about that, but thanks for your help.

See if you can get a better ground. That's going to be your best bet for attraction.

Re: Coats, how many and how to put them on

third coat, ground slanted kinda sideways , powder is about 3 months old, shooting fine from gun, just not sticking, makes the hair on my arm raise up when I pull the trigger so yeah, I think its charging, the ground is ok I guess, Im grounding directly to the back of the box for the gun and directly to the hook for the part, I have had no problems so far with attraction to the substrait, but have only done up to two coats until now.

Clear is not mine, I borrowed some. Friend says the clear is a Caswell clear, label states PCP4444 HSFD Clear. He purchased 3 months ago. Not the first time I used this clear and the first time it went on fine, but it was only the second coat then not a third as Im trying to do now.

Oh yeah, he keeps it (the powder) in an air conditioned environment.

have you tried about 25 KV's ? try this...lower the KV's to 25 and raise them slowly until it starts to stick...
