  • Powder Booths

Hey guys, I am going to be building a booth shortly. I was just looking for some ideas and had a couple questions. What kind of CFM are the exhaust fans pushing that are being used? What kind of filters does everyone use?

I would like to know the answer to these questions as well since I'll start building the booth as soon as the oven is done.

        Ok, so I can see that size DOES matter . Anyways, lets just say H 4' x W 4' x D 2'.

Too much CFM can cause issues with powder sticking etc.

I built a control box for air flow. Some powders are lighter in wieght than others keep in mind.

If it was me I would buy somthing that YOU can control CFM with.

          Hope that helps.

Isn't that typical of women, first thing they do is throw up the size thing.

I am switching my current exhaust fan this weekend to a 3spd. 1325, 1825, 2280 cfm, 10" one.
My fan exhaust through the wall to the outside. Probably not what I should be using for a filter but I use a decent furnace filter. Having a small shop I don't actually have a spray booth I have a spray area.

Ok, well I was planning on using a radiator fan I have laying around from one of my projects. I believe it's around 1500 CFM, its 12"...... Ya that's right, I said 12"

I was planning on rigging up a power source to use directly with a wall socket. And Maybe I'll stick a rheostat on there.

So now the secret is out...size does matter, 1500 CFM would be sufficient....

You might be able to find a free range hood on craigslist like i did. They move 240 scfm. One works ok for me, two would be better...

Just a option for free stuff.

I started with a 250 cfm through the wall house exhaust fan.

I have one from a furnace and have no idea what the CFM is. There is no data plate on it and it was a freebie from "the pile in the corner" so is there an easy way to come up with a ball park figure?

Could always try a heating and cooling forum, maybe someone there could help you figure out the cfm rating.
