I've never done one bro! I don't imagine it would influence the integrity of the block any though. someone will chime in with experience here i'm sure.

      Re: Engine Block

You won't have any integrity issues, but p/c work should always be done prior to machine work. The temps we use for p/c can take some precision machine work out of tolerance on a competition engine. Make sure you customer is aware of this and that he understands his machinist can handle a p/c'd block without farking it up.

In a previous life I used to do them by the thousands for Ford and GM. No special powder temp resistant-wise just an epoxy.

How about an Aluminum Porsche Case? Anyone have experience coating one of those? I have cleaned all the parts in my garage now just need to know if it is possible and what color to use. Suggestions? BTW this site is great. Because of it i now have no free time!

There's a huge difference between what I am familiar with (Aircooled VW's) and the current Porsche parts. But, I know you shouldn't ever Blast a VW case. Chemical cleaning only. The only part of those engines that are good for blasting is the fin areas on the Jugs and heads. The rest should be left alone. Coating them is no big deal, but as stated above, machine work should be done AFTER coating. At least have the machining that has been done already checked after coating. Masking is pretty important too, I'd say.

                        Re: Engine Block

                        I have coated several engines.
                        I suggest coat before machining.
mask well for blasting, and coating, and out gas well

                          Re: Engine Block

I was thinking about doing this with my block but my friend told me the powder would not hold up unless the block was new. Since my block is older and has had oil on it in the past (iron block is porous) I shied away. Is my friend mistaken? If so I'm game to getting mine done. It looks really nice.

Yeah, you can still do it after oil. You just have to offgas the block.
