Taking the tape off just took a long time. Denatured alcohol took off the "paper tape" glue residue no prob. I'm still working on fine tuning the oven time for that plastic tape. If it's in there too long, the pc edges will be jagged, because the pc or the tape will tear. In this case both wheels weren't in long enough and pc dust was going everywhere. I did find that MEK WILL remove cured pc dust if you miss any before the full cure!

In this case I started from the rim and worked my way in to the spokes. Since there was pc only on the spoke edges, after it cooled I just set it on it's side and slowly reversed the taping process. Then I wipe up any loose powder dust, put it back in the oven until it flows out, cool and then use MEK a rag and Q-tips for a final check and wipe before full cure. I don't think I want to do many of these tape jobs they are a major PITA!

How do you remove the masking when the powder starts to flow without bumping anything?

I've tried it before and for a part i could only hang it was impossible to remove the masking without touching the piece.

    Just curious, thats all. Thanks!

That took awhile also! I'm "testing" the blue 3m plastic tape for masking lines and so for I like the clean edges it gives. I wasn't sure how much heat it could handle so I only had the rim in for @ 4 1/2 min, cooled and took the tape off. I probably will go a little longer on the front rim, cause there was still quite a bit of loose powder that I have to wipe off before the final cure.

    Taping headache!

Finally doing the chopper shop owners wheels. It took me over 3 hours just to mask ONE wheel! It's a good thing he brings me alot of business, this would have cost him a fortune! Inner ribs will be PBTP bike black and the rest left polished with poss mirror clear overall.
Working...
