  • Acrylic question.....

What is the lowest cure temp/time I can safely use on the Diamond Acrylic Clear.....I am still having a slight out gassing problem with those aluminum pieces at 325/15min.

are you simply coating the part without a basecoat?

Ya and thats part of the problem.....these are new out of the box pieces the sides are polished but the area area between the fins on top is still cast (I have 2 valve covers and 3 air cleaners total to do) and thats where I am getting the bubbles from. After the inital pic I posted I stripped it then outgassed the piece for 1hr at 400... it helped a lot but I still had some bubbles, I am going to strip it again and out gass at 500/1hr then try again. If that doesn't work I will try some outgass additive but am not sure how that will work/look with just the clear.

If you are working with a part that outgasses you need to lay down a primer to mimimize the outgassing, therefore you should not be using the Acrlic Clear....the Glass Clear is a better product for the application.

If he is doing what I think he is trying to do then putting on anything is out of the question. He wants to keep it like it is. He needs to fig a way to get ride of all the out gassing issues so he can do what needs to be done unless the part he has is a crappy repo or very old stuff and just out gasses regardless.
Your answer to him is useless and you need to know what people want to do with using the acrylic for and that's to maintain its look and looks like you don't know that? Sorry but that's the way it is

The Acrylic products are less forgiving than other clears...I know resins that are used to create these products and where they are used in the industrial market.....
