Re: Why do all of our so called Newbies

I believe it has everything to do with the forums and the willingness to ask questions. Another thing that I have noticed is that most of the ones posting great stuff have some mechanical abilities or are involved in a mechanical hobby.

No not that kind of mechanical.

HMMM sawzall, drill, length of pipe, powder color of her choice....... Wait where was I

So it seems that we all do work with our hands outside of coating. Maybe some of the newbs are not as mechanically inclined. Just a thought.

Re: Why do all of our so called Newbies

        Being a newbie.....

First off, there are some really great folks here that help out and share, answering questions they probably have answered a dozen times before, show their work, and post their failures so we can learn. It doesn't get much better than that.

Otherwise, I am anal retentive, take my time doing things, and read/research. I kind of follow two mantras:
        1) if the quality isn't to the level where I would put it on my own car, I won't sell it to a customer
        2) In the words of Jesse James from West Coast Choppers "if it looks like sh!& or doesn't do what it was designed to do, I don't care how much time it took or how much it costs, it's not going on the bike"

I haven't been coating for a little while as my shop is currently torn apart as electrical work is being done. Kind of hard to coat anything when the compressor and the oven won't power up. However, we finished most of the power outlets today, going to start on the wiring for additional lighting tomorrow. So there is light (no pun intended) at the end of the tunnel.

I believe it has to do with the type of people that take this on. Caring, meticulous and yes - anal. It seems like we all share the need to do the best job possible. I'll bet that goes for all that we do. Of couse, forums like this full of great people and a great company that cares about helping us do the best job helps quite a bit!

Re: Why do all of our so called Newbies

I agree with everything the guys have said so I won't repeat it. Some of it I don't think I could of said it better. I will add I think the guys are like me. No matter how many times a project beats me I will not quit until it's done and done right. We powder coat because we like it and "failure is not an option"!!
So we will ask all the dumb questions and seek out the knowledge we need to be successful at this.

If all else fails we will pm Harleydad ,Wiseguyz, BeeBob or one of the other gods of PC and ask for help!!

            Oh and you too King.

I wish I could fall into that category. Every test job, or test panel I spray has some problems with it. From too much powder to not enough, even dirt. Very frustrating, to the point where I wanted to throw in the towel many times. But I have to pay for the equipment now.

I look at the other newbs work and wonder wtf am I doing wrong?

I just get a high on doing things myself especially when someone says i cant. And this wouldnt be possible without forums like these and all the people that care enough to help the new guys out, without asking for anything in return. Even though i dont make alot $$ doing this Im having fun and I get to see the customers face when they get there parts Back.

Thanks for the support everyone. I read all those posts, and try to learn from other mistakes.

I know what most of the problems I'm having are, I just don't spray enough parts to learn and see the mistakes I'm making.

When I was painting car parts, I can see exactly whats going on, with pc'ing its coat and then find your problem.

And I thought PC'ing was going to be easier. It has just as many challenges.
