  • Like roasting a Turkey

Dont know if any of you guys use them or not, but I did for the first time today for a test run, those turkey bags are perfect for covering a section of a part that you dont want to coat. For instance, I am doing a water pump for my buddy, and the pully is pressed in, so instead of pressing out and in again, and taking a chance on screwing up the work we just did, I wraped the pump with a turkey oven bag, IT WORKED GREAT. Now were going to see in the morning if we can switch and put the bag over the pully and shoot the pump a different color. FYI the bags say they are good for 400 degrees or less, which is perfect for most powders and colors.

Dont have any pics tonight, but I will post some if anyone is interested. Just a little hillbilly backwoods thinking by myself when trying to figure the easy way to cover something that would take a crap load of tape (and cost alot too)

How do you do a water pump without damaging the seals? Do you press them apart then coat the housing and press it back together?

Sweet idea using the turkey bags. I wouldn't mind seeing some pics.

I've done basically the same thing, only I used the paper that is used to mask of a car before painting. It came out pretty good. Paper made it through 400 deg with no problems.

Im just lazy I guess. I have paper and taped up parts before, but this turkey bag is a lot less painless and cheaper than using tape if your trying to completely surround a certain part.

As far as the water pump goes, its a friends pump out of an ls1 camaro. He happens to have a spare laying around, so he wanted to try it, and if it doesnt work, oh well I guess. I will let you know what happens, I said the same thing to him about the seals but he wanted to try it anyhow, so as long as he is doing the on and off and on and off work, I guess Ill do his experiment.

Ill get some pics up after the sun comes out this morning, (if it does - cause it looks overcast out there)

Cool, let me know the outcome. It's crappy outside here as well.

sorry it took me a while, job got put on hold for my REAL job. Here are the pics I promised. I am a little ticked about the cast part, cause its not smooth, but there wasnt much I could do about it this time. Next time I will for sure shoot with filler primer first.

Oh yeah, its Caswell super wet black and PBTP bonded and extruded SS
