Depends on the look you're going for. For a nice deep even color, a basecoat of anything from mirror silver to any of the reflective chrome powders. If you want a metallic, silver stardust or other light silver metallic. Silver explosion will give you a more pronounced metalflake. If you want to make your candies or transparents darker, use a similar solid color as a basecoat, or a darker gray metallic. There are as many possibilities for basecoats as there are topcoats, and the combinations are endless. I know you were probably looking for a simple answer, but there really isn't one. I'm sure others will chime in as well.
