  • Questions about a frame???

    Hi
I will try & attach a photo of a 69 Firebird frame. I have some questions about coating..... We have a zinc primer. Should i use this & if so what is the procedure? Also how in the heck am i going to get into all those nooks & crannies??? I will have to hang it vertically... this is the largest job we can fit in the oven!!
The weather is kinda icky so it will possibly be tomorrow berfore i can blast it. Then Todd can coat it ... hehehehehe
Any & all guidance will be greatly appreciated.... Thank You
    Cindy

I would only add (but I'm sure Todd knows this already) to start and fill in the nooks and crannies first, then proceed to the easy stuff. That way you won't get excessive powder buildup in those areas trying to get in there after everything else is coated.

Thanks for letting us know how Todd is getting along. Please ask him for me if he remembers Dan from Elite Powder Coat. My Marine son Craig who was supposed to meet you when he was at Camp Lejune last year is now home safe from Iraq after 7 months. Semper Fi!

Best of luck to both of you.

Apply the primer and partial cure (1/2) after it cools apply the top coat What would be the advantage to not curing the primer all the way?, if you have rinsing air to keep the gun electrode clean turn that off. For us that don't have this feature can you explain more on this?
I hope you don't mind me butting in here I am just curious on those. Thanks

                Re: Questions about a frame???

By half curing the primer that will cross link the two coats together (bonding the two coats together). The rinse air is a small volume of air directed at the tip of the gun to help eliminate buildup. I think it is adjustable on most .

Make sure the rails are blown clean as has been stated, I would add a section of hose to your air gun and let ir spin inside the rails, moving down the rails through the holes till you reach the end. All forms of crude get in there and come out at the wrong times!!!!!

Do you do that procedure with the primer on all jobs or just questionable ones as far as adhesion goes? Us without the rinse air should watch for buildup on our electrode then right?

                      1) For me, all jobs that get a primer.

                      2) Yes, especially with metallics. If you see powder building up too much just blow it off quick with a shot of air.
                      Thanks HD

Do I ??? If i do how do i turn off??
I have an air line at the blaster & will blow the h*ll out of it before i hang it. We have been working on cleaning it for about 10 days now dosing it with simple green & power washing, getting into most of those hard to reach places but i am sure a bunch more crud will come off after the blasting!!!!
I know that i will have to take my time & not rush it... yeah i have a tendancy to do that... us Eby`s only have one speed & that is wide open
Again Thank You for all the support.

What guns have that feature? I have had five different pro guns and never have seen it.
