  • Here's one for a price check

This is a muffler off of a 77 Honda Gold Wing. Needs the black paint blasted, save the chrome and coat with Satin Black Ceramic. Bic lighter for sizing. It is a used muffler. I also need to get the tape off the chrome and retape. It has been on there for several years. This came off a bike that has set for 15 years.

Also have calipers. Dual front and single rear. It has what he said was called Hard Coat. I blasted them and it seemed to come off okay. Will coat with Wet Black.
    Thanks, JT

I would charge $50 for the exhaust part and $35 ea on the calipers.

He wants ceramic, I dunno, but I've seen guys get 25 per lineal foot on a 2" ID pipe. I bet you could get 150 for this pipe.

You don't need ceramic on the muffler just powder? Ceramic is not cheep and you have to use a spray gun and I would say you only need ceramic from the head and down the pipe to the muffler. Ceramic like this just air dries and then the heat cures it but there is not enough heat at the muffler to cure so you would have to cure hotter than most ovens do for a full cure. Am I right or wrong? I think you need to suggest another way and powder coat it like normal! Just do the reserch on what needs to be done with the ceramic and you will see what it takes for full cure.

I've done several Ceramics, baked and air dry. Mufflers do get pretty hot (just grab onto one). So what do you recommend, Duke?

Hot is hot and so is hot water but powder can stand heat. We bake it don't we? And then you have the high heat powder that's good for more. But you might get a burn from your muffler but its no where near the burn you would get if you touched the header pipe right off the head. Most every one will tell you that from the CAT if there is one ( want be one on the one you are doing)out that powder will do just fine. Just take your temp gun and take a reading and you will know right then. I had a guy come buy after riding 20 miles and took a reading and then used reg powder on it. I also showed him the reading at the header pipe. Lets say 250 on the muffler and 600 to 900 on the header. What I am telling you has been on forums before and EW or Caswell should have the answers.
Can't tell you what to ask to get the answer? But if you start a new thread and ask "what is best to coat a bike muffler with" You will find your answer and more most likely. Jason will know also(autocycle) If he reads what I have said along with some others but they want look at this thread again so re post the question and you will have what you need.
I am doing one tomorrow in reg flat black powder just like the other ones I have done. NO PROBLEM

Why not use HI-Temp powder ?

When in doubt hi temp is a safe bet but not necessary on muffler. They just don't get that hot that I know of? I have used it on the pipe between the header and the muffler and sometimes I have seen where it holds up OK on a header but really wouldn't want to use it on a customers bike! Some guys have had no problem. I guess it all depends on the design and how hot the header gets. Some searching on the EW forum might give you some info. Might be some on here also. Its been a while?

Here is one link with some info. There is a whole lot more. Just have to look and read like I do.
