  • Surge protection

I tried to ask last night, but my p/c has been so infected lately, I couldn't get the post to go thru............so............

Is it necessary to have a surge protector for these expensive guns or is it built in? I'd hate to think that the odd lightning strike could reduce my new toy to so much junk.

And then tonight....working along at the shop.....everything was fine.....then BOOM!, BANG!, the transformers outside started throwing blue sparks, lines were snapping and arcing blue sparks that could have been in "Back to the Future" when Marty hit the wire from the clock tower.

I hope to hell my less than a month old gun isn't cooked.

    Any thoughts?

Pretty sure there is no surge protection built into the unit, but it definitely wouldn't hurt to have one on it. I certainly hope your gun isn't cooked. That would not be good. You are insured, right?

I carry a gun because I'm too young to die, and too old to take an ass-whoopin'!

Guess I'll find out tomorrow. Insured? Does 'self-insured' count?

Homeonwners insurance should cover it, but you will have to cover your deductible... I bet its a wash either way.

                  Re: Surge protection

Hey CPCCCCCCCCCCCC surge and lighting strikes or spikes or in a diff world. Surge is when power could drop or rise under/over the normal 120.

The storm and lighting part is in the oh shit where is a place to hide so I don't fry my behind

You need surge protection and then you need lighting arrestors to cover you and then hope that the lighting hits outside the area and not in the middle!

Now you can go looking for what you need on the net or pay the power company to do it for you?

Years ago our power company had a whole house surge deal and they pulled the meter and then added the unit and put the meter back. I guess it still works? They have gone to another type system now. As for as lighting and spikes. That's a tough call on what you need to do and also what you are trying to protect. The biggest thing is making sure that all grounds go to the powder ground and test good and that the powder company ground megs good and then the rest is up to you to provide any extra coverage you need.

NOW DID YOU BLOW UP OR NOT????????????? WE WANT TO KNOW!

My agent told me my homeowners insurance will cover me since I also use my shop space for household storage. The catch is, it would only cover a loss ONCE, and then the company would probably drop me if they found out I was running a business out of that space. I'm risking it for now until my "storage space" begins to pay for itself on a regular basis.

Just keep in mind that the state you live in you just might be able to HANG insurance agents from good limbs if need be. You be in the real WILD WEST for sure So just let him know you watching him And make sure he cover BUTT

We just have to hog tie them and throw them in the water with a good heavy weight here

No, I finally cashed in all the penny's I've been saving since the divorce (10th Divorsiversary is coming up soon - that 5 gallon water jug was just getting to heavy to lug around) and bought a Wagner Prima from PBtP. Not sure what took me so long. Some of the best money I've spent in a while, except for the "hookers and blow" last weekend.
