  • KL primer question

I have 5 of the old spoke 30's wheels. A little work to do on a couple with some pits but the others are in great shape for the age of them. Doing some sanding on the primer arould the outer part of the rim will not be to bad but the spokes and other areas would not be easy at all. Just coating them will be interesing enough to do. And I guess I will heating them up to get powder where it has to go.

What are your guys thoughts on the best way to do them?

            Hey HD,
What do you use for the iron phosphate? I have EW Fast Etch that I think I could use? I bought it for painting not PC. http://www.eastwoodco.com/shopping/prod ... ctID=16671 But I think the best way for me to use it would be in a paint sprayer? Getting to every nook and cranny for sure on the old spoke wheels is a tough one and a little rust preventive would sure help so I don't have to redo them a few years from now and I have to leave town

I have the KL primer and I think I have enough of the zinc one? And I guess its ok if you need to sand down the zinc one if I need to?

I use the EW Metal Wash on a lot of my steel/iron parts to give me prep time and to stop flash rust. Works right well.

And to Shelly. These wheels are on this site some where? The guy did them in yellow and answered a question I had about them. Unless it was EW the post was on? Can't find the dag link! to post for the SHOW ME GIRL

I have to get a data sheet on the 915 I guess?

But looking for info I did find this interesting?

I have done some informal testing on steel with a one step iron phosphate/cleaner product, a resin pre-treatment called "Liquigaurd" and untreated steel all blasted with 80 grit aluminumoxide. I coated with TGIC polyester, scratched through the finish and soaked in a heavy salt brine.
The untreated steel rusted bad along the scratch, the Liquigaurd treated rusted not so bad and the phosphated faired the best (mild rust).
After seeing with my own eyes, no steel will leave my shop without iron phosphating.
I don't make decisions on what a salesman tells me anymore. "

Thru everyone's comment, and PPG tech I feel very confident we have finally resolved most of our issues.
added bonus for us is the PPG Chemfos KA works very well on CRS, Blasted steel, and raw, or blasted aluminum, blasted stainless.

We are very grateful to everyone who took the time to help us become a more efficient company with an tremendously quality improved product.

                thank you all

And if you are the only HD you were in on this looks like?

The EW Metal Wash works great if you know you have blasted it correct and its clean. I have had it setting in my bay for weeks and no problems but out in my shop if the humidity is bad its a tough go and have to re-blast and retreat it.

Life is just not simple is it When it comes to coating and painting.
