  • Price Check Thread

I was thinking maybe we could some how make this a sticky thread, instead of creating thread after thread. Any admins or moderators thoughts on this? If not, no big deal, just a suggestion.

Now to the true reason behind this post...

Juan and I have a customer interested in getting his motorcycle's 17" wheels and one set of pegs powder coated in Satin Black. The current coating on the parts are factory silver paint. We have never dealt with motorcycle parts and were curious as to what you guys think is fair for prices on both?

Thanks for your time and we look forward to your replies.

Also, thanks to all your guys' help on here, great forums!

Right now I charge $70 a rim for coating.

I was thinking the same area of price myself.

      Thanks Crimson!

Based on what I've seen on here at found on other sites I think $150 for both wheels seems like a reasonable price.

I really don't think that it needs to be made into a sticky. If you look at the board right now only 3 of the items on the first page are people asking for pricing help, that is not swaping the board or bumping down other useful information.

I'll run it by Matthew. If you guy's want it, it can be done. I'll admit, it's not a bad idea. All though we are trying to avoid a whole first page full of sticky's in a given forum.
I can see how having an entire first page of stickies would be annoying. However, I think that keeping it to less than 5 stickies (25 threads per page) would not be an issue.

Yeah, no big deal. I just thought if there are a lot of requests, then instead of making a bunch of different threads, we could have one. But, if there is no demand, no worries. Remember, I am new to this board, LOL.

              Thanks.

There's also the possibility of creating a sub-forum or main category for prices and quotes.

The real advantage to having a sticky or a dedicated forum for prices comes from the ability to easily identify what others have charged in the past for similar jobs. Almost like an archive if you will.

Just got a quote from my local sand blaster for both wheels at $60. Does that sound fair? Said he would get it done in about half an hour.

Ya that's about right. Our local blaster charges 25-30/per for any size rim.

My commercial blaster is $50 per hour, but does standard steel rims for me at $10 each. For that, I'll have him doing my blasting all day long!

Yup, thats ballpark. Be sure he does the necessary masking.
I'm pretty sure I can talk him down to $50 with the promise of more work down the road.

What does the masking involve? On a bike wheel I'm guessing we're talking about the center hub section, correct?

                        Thanks!

                          Juan,

Ask yourself, Self can I blast them in 30 minutes or less or they are free. Seriously for the price I would source them out and use my time doing something in the shop, like coating.

That's exactly what I'm thinking and I was telling Kiel earlier. It's gonna be HOURS of work for me to get that OEM paint off using paint stripper and blasting, well worth the 50 bucks and 15 minute drive to have this guy do them. Thanks!
