  • Hyper Smooth Vs. King Coat

I know I need a new gun, that is a given the hobby gun is a POS and isnt good for much other than standard colors. So now im looking at GOOD guns. What is everyones personal opinion of the 2 ? Please dont just say the one that you have because that is what you have, please give good reasons supporting the whichever one you bought, and why you would buy it over the other one.

    Thanks,
    John

I have the King Coat gun and would suggest you buy it for 2 very good reason over the Hyper Smooth.

    1. The King gun has a retro kit you can buy that lets you use it with a real hopper with a pump. This made the gun for me, I was not that happy with it as a cup gun.

    2. The support you will get from PBTP, Shelly and Matt cannot be beat. They will not rest until your problems are fixed and you are 100% happy. This alone is the best reason to buy from them.

Re: Hyper Smooth Vs. King Coat

Here is my take as posted on a previous thread. I don't own either of those guns, but have another similar chinese knock-off that was bought off of ebay.

If given the choice, I would go with the KingCoat for the following reasons:

First and foremost, PowderBuyThePound's customer service. Not only do they sell the gun, they stand behind it and bend over backwards to make sure it works properly, and will help guide you through any problems you may have, whether it's the gun, or your methods that are giving you grief.

Number 2, the BeeBob hopper will work with the KingCoat, and if you call PBTP, they sell a conversion kit for the KingCoat gun. It's not listed on their site yet as far as I know, but they have it in several sizes. The advantage to this setup vs. the HyperSmooth gun is that BeeBob's hopper is a true fluidizing hopper, whereas the HyperSmooth is basically using the same principle as the other basic cup guns. It just uses a powder pickup tube in a powder bottle instead of in the cup attached to the gun, so it's not a hopper-feed, it's just a "remote bottle" so to speak.

Matthew is working on my ebay gun at present trying to make a BeeBob hopper work with that one too. Can't say enough about this company. And no, I don't work for them. They even help me when I have problems, and Shelly knows I use Peridium powder a lot! (Because I get it locally, no other reason!)

No matter which gun you choose, the folks here at PBTP will help you make the best of it.

      Best of luck.

Thanks for the honest review. I know I will be buying one soon, and I think the King coat is the way I will be going. I have a massive job 360 parts coming up that will be easy and i can make a great deal of money off of, so i see a new gun in my future

I too have had the same question as you,i've posted the same question on other forums and
it seems like you always get a different answer depending on which forum they are linked too
I have yet to purchase one until after the first of the year, but i'am leaning toward the new kingcoat with the hopper..
I too want the best customer service i can get being on the west coast area and reading
wises post to my question on a different post has helped also lean towards the kingcoat.
the one thing i did hear is the hypersmooth has a better box and it is a plug and play gun ??

It wont be plug and play with a real hopper tho. If you want the real hopper and trust me you do, buy the king gun.

The hyper gun only has 1 regulator so you would not have all the control needed for a real hopper. You need 3 like the King Gun has. You need 2 for the pump on top of the hopper. If you call and talk to Matt he has build some King Guns that are already modded for a hopper if you don't want to do it yourself.

Will the gun work just fine with the cup on it or does it suck?

The King Gun works great with just the cup. It has the same draw backs as any other cup gun tho that drove me nuts and why I love the hopper so much. If will dump powder out the barrel and if you tip the gun to much you lose powder cloude. I love being able to tip my King Gun right upside down and the cloude does not change with the hopper.
If I had the money I would buy a second King Gun and keep the cup on it for small jobs that do not need much powder.
