I've got 2 HD frames to do, 1 now and 1 when I get back. They've been washed and blasted, should I just wipe them down good with denatured alky, run the torch over them and shoot, or?? I've got some columbia iron phophate solution and ew metal wash, but I've also got VERY HARD water here! I guess I could buy some bottled water. These will be my first frames. Thanks

    Re: frames

Hang them in your oven until you can get to them. That's going to be the driest possible place to store for any length of time if you can't get a pre-treatment on them.

I guess i would just spray or wipe down with denatured alcohol, prebake, cool it and then shoot it.

          Re: frames

If you want any type of long term adhesion of the coating to the substrate you should use some form of conversion coating (Iron or zinc phos.) Then again they are motorcycle frames, I guess they are not going to be exposed to too much road salt except for the real hardcore riders.

            Re: frames

All frames I have done have a lot of oils in the weld joints. So I usually run them through at least one bake cycle to push all that out and bake it off.

That's not always oil. A lot of custom frame builders use tig with a high silicone content due to the increased strength it provides - but it sure can play hell when we get to do our thang

Did the swing arm last night with the KL primer first. This frame looks like it's been beaten with a hammer in places! Of course the mirror black makes the dents really stick out!
